Scoring

The Barsch Learning Style Inventory helps you determine whether your preferred learning style is visual, auditory, or tactile (kinesthetic). Here’s how to make sense of your scores:

Steps to Score Your Learning Style:

  1. Check Your Responses:
    • You have answered each question with Often 1 (5 points), Sometimes 2 (3 points), or Seldom3 (1 point).
  2. Assign Scores:
    • Next to each question number in the Visual, Auditory, or Tactile columns, write the corresponding point value from your responses.
  3. Add Up the Scores:
    • VPS (Visual Preference Score): Total of all the points in the Visual column.
    • APS (Auditory Preference Score): Total of all the points in the Auditory column.
    • TPS (Tactile/Kinesthetic Preference Score): Total of all the points in the Tactile column.
  4. Interpret Your Scores:
    • The highest score indicates your dominant learning style.
    • If scores are close, you may have a mixed learning style or be multimodal, meaning you learn well in more than one way.

What Your Learning Style Means:

  • Visual Learner (High VPS)
    • Learns best through images, diagrams, and written materials.
    • Prefers charts, graphs, color coding, and visualization techniques.
  • Auditory Learner (High APS)
    • Learns best through listening and speaking.
    • Prefers lectures, discussions, and verbal instructions.
  • Tactile/Kinesthetic Learner (High TPS)
    • Learns best by doing and experiencing.
    • Prefers hands-on activities, movement, and physical interaction.
